Opening Ceremony of Wanfenglin Summit
The 2nd Wanfenglin Summit was held in Wanfenglin of Xingyi City, southwest Guizhou Province of China on Feb. 23rd, 2014. The Summit was themed on prosperous rural economy, beautiful rural community and better-off rural life.
The Summit brought together domestic and foreign experts and scholars as well as representatives from pilot beautiful villages designated by MOA. At the Summit, participants conducted extensive discussions on how to build beautiful villages in the process of rapid industrialization and urbanization.
Consensus has been reached at the Summit that the concept of beautiful village jointly held and promoted by the "Beautiful Village' Campaign nationwide and the Summit is of great significance. This momentous Campaign launched by MOA will inspire new development patterns towards sustainable development, improve rural production and living environment and thus press ahead with the building of a new countryside. It will promote the evolution of the concept of development and thus spur new-type urbanization.
A series of sideline events are to be held during the Summit, including a seminar on policy for building beautiful villages, Village Dreams--International Forum on Construction and Development of Village and a TV special covering Wanfenglin on channel 7 of China Central Television (CCTV-7, China Agriculture Film and Television Center).
The Summit was co-organized by MOA Department of Science, Technology and Education, CCTV-7, Chinese Agri-produce Marketing Association, Guizhou Agricultural Commission and others.
Launched by MOA in 2013, the "Beautiful Village' Campaign aims to promote ecological development and "Beautiful China' building in rural areas. MOA made public a name list of 1100 pilot villages in November of 2013, and this initiative is expected to foster and explore development patterns of beautiful villages in the following three years, and thus to provide reference for rural community development in China.
